The Raspberry Pi 4 Model B features a quad-core Cortex-A72 running at 1.5GHz, up to 8GB of LPDDR4 memory, real Gigabit Ethernet, USB 3.0, and dual 4K display output. This puts it in a different class from every Pi that came before it.

Runs OctoPrint or Klipper, webcam stream and all. It also makes a capable Linux desktop, a home server, a media center, a retro gaming console, a network-wide ad blocker, or the brain of whatever you are building. The 40-pin GPIO header is unchanged from earlier models, so the HATs and accessories you already own still fit.

Product Notes

Power comes in over USB-C and it wants a proper 5V/3A supply. A phone charger you had lying around will usually boot it, but it will brown out the moment you plug in a hard drive. Use a supply rated for the job.

Video output is micro-HDMI, not full-size and not mini. If you are coming from a Pi 3 your old cable will not fit. You need one micro-HDMI cable per display.

You will also need a microSD card, 16GB or larger, and something to write the OS onto it. Raspberry Pi OS is free and the imaging tool takes about five minutes.

The Pi 4 runs warmer than earlier models, particularly the 8GB version under sustained load. It will not damage itself, it just throttles back. A heatsink or a case with a small fan keeps it at full clock.
